Ericsson Home Subscriber Server Front End

Subscription management and user authentication to IMS and LTE network domains and a key enabler for critical and massive IoT. Part of the Ericsson UDC solution.

HSS-FE provides control and intelligence for the user subscription traffic within the EPC and IMS networks. In the data layered architecture, the data store (CUDB) and HSS-FE association manage subscriber profiles, subscriber identities, location and activity.

HSS-FE is the evolution of the HSS/SLF product in the evolution to Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Cloud.

Home Subscriber Server (HSS) manages subscription-related information in real time, for multi-access and multi-domain offerings in an all-IP environment.

Based on 3GPP specifications, HSS supports the network control layer with subscription and session handling, providing capabilities for:

  • Mobile management
  • User security
  • User identification handling
  • Access authorization
  • Service authorization
  • Service profile

The SW of HSS-FE has been specially designed to allow full HW and SW decoupling to be used in cloud environments.

HSS is used in all of our IMS solutions and provides user profile management, authentication and authorization and location management functions in the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and for non-3GPP access (WiFi) to EPC networks.
