Mobile traffic volumes are expected to increase exponentially through 2020 and beyond. For mobile backhaul, the evolution from LTE to LTE-Advanced and 5G will increasingly demand higher capacity and lower latency capabilities from operators’ networks. Based on the GSMA 5G report, user terminal speeds are expected to exceed 1 Gbps. End-to-end latency of less than 10 ms will be required to enable delay-sensitive and interactive applications. By 2020 it is expected a 22 fold increase of mobile video traffic putting stringent requirements in terms of capacity and performance on backhaul networks. Therefore, backhaul networks need to be designed to absorb the expected rise in traffic volume utilizing routers with high capacity and radio-aligned advanced features at lowest possible latency.


The Ericsson Router 6000 series is a radio integrated, Service Provider SDN enabled IP transport portfolio managed by a single end to end management system. The Ericsson Router 6000 series is a key component of and is tightly integrated with the Ericsson Radio System including Ericsson Radio and Microwave. Service Provider SDN capabilities in the Router 6000 series bring a new dimension of application-aware traffic engineering to access and aggregation networks.


Ericsson Network Manager can be used to manage the complete end-to-end radio access network including radio, fronthaul and backhaul connectivity. This enables seamless plug-and-play capabilities for radio and router installation as well as for network operation.

    Ericsson Router 6274 Ericsson Router 6274 is a high performance modular and fully redundant aggregation router, designed to enable high quality network service delivery for LTE, LTE Advanced and 5G fixed/mobile converged metro aggregation networks and enterprise application. In its category, it sets a new benchmark for port density by scaling up to 144x10G and 12x100G interfaces and offering up to 2.1Tbps switching capacity in a space efficient 5RU chassis with front access for all field replaceable units allowing an overall lower OPEX. It provides GE, 2.5GE and 10GE interfaces with right cost points, small footprint and superior synchronization features. It supports VPN services over IP/MPLS networks, service provider SDN, service exposure using NETCONF/YANG as well as extensive quality of service features strong security features such as IPSec.


    Ericsson Router 6371Ericsson Router 6371 is an ultra-compact IP65 environmental hardened cell site router, designed to enable high quality network service delivery while at the same time lowering operating costs by its fan-less and filter-less design and by sharing the same installation practices and accessories as rest of Ericsson outdoor radio system. This means Router 6371 can be rail, pole, wall and strand mounted in outdoor environments along with rest of Ericsson radio system components. It provides GE, 2.5GE and 10GE interfaces with small footprint and superior synchronization features. It supports VPN services over IP/MPLS networks, service provider SDN, service exposure using NETCONF/YANG as well as an extensive quality of service features and strong security features such as IPSec.


    Ericsson TDM 1001 Ericsson TDM 1001 is an optional module for Router 6000 family that can be used to provide TDM services. TDM 1001 supports up to 16 E1/T1 interfaces via circuit emulation and is managed as a virtual linecard of any indoor variant of Router 6000. Management and maintenance of TDM 1001 is done through the Router 6000 that hosts it. TDM 1001 can be software upgradable to support MLPPP in future roadmap. As TDM interfaces are being decommissioned gradually in networks, TDM 1001 solution with Router 6000 offers a graceful migration path where performance, capacity and space of routers need not be compromised to accommodate TDM interface requirements. Like Router 6471, TDM 1001 is a compact and temperature hardened device that is easy to maintain as it is a fan-less and filter-less mechanical design. TDM 1001 can be placed in a hosting shelf with a Router 6471 that combined together only occupies 1RU space of an 19 inch wide shelf.
