Ericsson Macro

When operators construct a network, they typically start by building a macro layer, mainly consisting of rooftop sites and masts to quickly obtain the largest possible coverage area. On these sites, high-output power radios are usually selected, operating on different frequency bands. Both main-remote radios connected to passive antennas as well as Antenna Integrated Radios (AIRs) are used. An AIR unit replaces the antenna, radio, Tower Mounted Amplifiers (TMA), feeders, and jumpers. The AIR construction with multiple antenna panels makes it the ideal architecture to introduce Massive MIMO technology, that increases coverage and capacity.

Key benefits

  • Efficient way to quickly build large coverage areas
  • Highest output power levels to maximize capacity and coverage
  • Antenna Integrated Radios (AIR) for Massive MIMO usage to further increase capacity and coverage
