The Ericsson Session Border Controller guarantees security and interoperability on the border between IMS and other networks, both for signaling and media. It can be used towards fixed or mobile access networks as well as interconnected networks.
The Ericsson Session Border Controller is a virtualized carrier-class product that can run on Ericsson or 3rd party X86 HW in multiple cloud environments.
The Ericsson Session Border Controller (vSBC) provides security, interoperability, routing and charging functionality for VoLTE, ViLTE, WiFi calling, Interconnect, RCS, WebRTC, fixed VoIP access and SIP Trunking solutions. It is built according to 3GPP and TISPAN standards, allowing the control and media plan to be located in different geographical locations.
The vSBC is a SW product that can be deployed on basically any X86 HW in multiple cloud environments, such as OpenStack, VMware and the Ericsson Cloud Execution Environment (CEE). The vSBC can also be delivered as a pre-packaged product including both SW and BSP 8100 HW. The vSBC is also certified to run on the HDS 8000.
To allow for a safe and cost-efficient migration, the vSBC can be used together with the installed base of native Border Gateway Functions included in Ericsson M-MGw and MRS nodes.
The Ericsson Session Border Controller offers:
Cost efficient growth with new services – scaling of control and media capacity can be done independently
Safe and cost efficient migration – virtualization of control and media can be done independently allowing reuse of existing M-MGw and MRS nodes
Cost efficient control with low media latency and transmission savings – centralized control while the media plane is handled in traffic hotspots
Fast and cost-efficient deployments – the vSBC is pre-integrated in Ericsson solutions
All business opportunities addressed with one product – feature richness for all needs resulting in significant OPEX savings
Fast introduction of customized services and opportunities for innovation – SIP Message Manipulation scripts
