Headquartered in Plano, Texas, Ericsson’s North American headquarters opened in 2001. Today, Ericsson has nearly 4,500 employees at that location and more than 15,000 across North America.

The North American region represents a huge growth region for Ericsson with many of the company’s Plano, Texas employees working with the biggest wireless providers on the continent, including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and Rogers.

Recently, Ericsson has started focusing on developing its media portfolio to ensure that it is relevant to the TV and Media market. The North American cable market, which represents over 40 percent of the US TV and Media market, is key to Ericsson’s strategy to become a top supplier in the industry.

New Ericsson 5G design site in Austin

We’re excited to announce the opening of our newest design center in Austin, Texas! This Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) site will focus on microelectronics and accelerating the path to 5G commercialization, and we’re actively recruiting ASIC and Algorithm Developers!  

ASIC microelectronics, which are at the core of all Ericsson Radio Systems, are specially made to enable and empower mobile infrastructure. They are 100x faster, more cost-efficient, and more energy efficient than most PC processors.

The ASIC design center is centrally located in Austin’s tech neighborhood, near other processor manufacturers. Working near and fostering collaborations with major silicon-fab houses will allow us to better utilize core silicon technology to develop unique and dedicated ASICs.

We are strengthening our radio design capability in one of the world’s 5G pioneer markets. We’ll be up and running with our first group of designers in Austin by the end of 2017. Along with our ASIC design teams in Sweden and China, we’ll be making faster, better and greener 5G products to bring into the Ericsson portfolio by 2019.
