Think about the business case

So, you think you have a good idea for a new application. You’ve checked the available specifications and it is technically possible to develop your idea; you're ready to go coding.
But have you checked that the customer and/or end-user also think it’s a good idea? It's always safer to make a business case before you start coding. Depending on the situation, you might want to interview one or more operators and/or end-users to find out if they like your idea. Spend some time on presentation material before you do the interview, so it is easier to explain your idea. Depending on the outcome of the interviews, you might want to make some updates to your idea. The interviews are a good way of finding out if there is enthusiasm for your idea and, if not, they can save you a lot of coding time. So, it's always useful to make a business case before you start coding. Last published February 17, 2007
