Pre-tested, integrated IP solutions for mobile operators

Mar 21, 2011 Categories: Portfolio, Industry, Technology

  • Mobile network test demonstrates how Ericsson’s solutions are engineered to solve challenges of operating a multigenerational mobile network
  • Pre-tested and integrated solutions provide faster time to market and lower TCO
  • Comprehensive test covered entire network spanning radio access, mobile backhaul, mobile packet backbone and mobile core

Ericsson today announced it has completed an all-inclusive mobile network test to showcase the advantages of a pre-tested, integrated IP infrastructure solution for mobile operators. The test was conducted primarily at Ericsson’s Global Test Environment Center in Aachen, Germany, which was connected to multiple testing sites worldwide through a common network. To replicate a real world mobile operator scenario, the standards-based test incorporated 2G, 3G and LTE-based radio access, hybrid microwave and fiber based mobile backhaul transport, and third party products. As the leader in radio access networks (RAN), the test showcased Ericsson’s unique position to address the interdependencies the RAN has with mobile backhaul design in a multigenerational mobile network.

"As the demand for mobile broadband services continues to increase, operators are challenged with leveraging the technologies currently in their networks, participating in advanced services and applications, and maintaining their current subscribers," said Glen Hunt, Principal Analyst, Transport and Routing Infrastructure, at Current Analysis. "Through this solutions level trial, Ericsson has taken testing to the next level by showing how all pieces of the network play together to meet the needs of new services. The trial revealed many advantages in deploying an integrated mobile transport and radio access solution from Ericsson including lower TCO, faster time to market, and the ability to offer subscribers a highly personalized experience."

Ericsson’s end-to-end network infrastructure products offer both fixed and mobile operators a range of solutions that address today’s most pressing issues. To support an increasingly networked society, it is imperative that operators are able to offer a high quality user experience, and personalized services for any type of content, device, or location. Mobile operators must also address the challenges in the mobile backhaul network. As part of the testing at Aachen, Ericsson demonstrated advanced features of its microwave products that help operators handle emerging traffic types and increased traffic volume with a common quality of service (QoS) policy enforcement from radio access to the mobile core.

"Ericsson has created a full end-to-end portfolio for mobile transport with a solutions focused approach," said Matthew Smith, Director of Marketing for IP and Broadband, Ericsson. "The event in Aachen showcased the in-house testing we carry out on a day-to-day basis to ensure networks run smoothly and that every part of a solution fits together perfectly. Pre-testing and verification of network solutions have proven to help operators reduce their operational and capital expenditure as they go through the process of deploying new technologies."
