Existing transport networks have been designed with Voice (mobile networks) and Internet access (fixed Broadband networks) as the defining applications. With the introduction of Broadband over mobile access as well as TV distribution over Broadband networks, the demand on the transport network has changed substantially. IP, Ethernet and WDM are the key technologies enabling next generation transport networks. These can be combined in a broad variety of ways to take advantage of the very high capacities (WDM), the cost efficiency (Ethernet) and the service capabilities (IP) that are expected of transport in the future. Ericsson’s transport offerings have a clear role in the Full Service Broadband architecture and address both Metro and Core applications for both fully converged as well as pure mobile networks.
