Optimized to Deliver the Most Scalable Metro Ethernet Services

Simplifying network architectures, lowering network costs by converging the fixed and mobile networks are some of today’s biggest challenges.
As the first focal point of fixed and mobile networks, the new metro platforms must deliver unparalleled transport scalability in the form of E-LINE and E-LAN services.
Built over the next-generation Ethernet architecture with an advanced combination of IP/MPLS transport, stringent traffic engineering with tiered or hierarchal QoS support, and comprehensive integrated Ethernet OA&M capabilities, these point-to-point and multipoint services must seamlessly bridge between the transport and IP domains.

Key benefits

The Ericsson SM Family of Metro Ethernet Service Transport platforms, consisting of the new SM 240 for the metro access and the SM 480 for the metro core, are designed to meet the converged metro transport needs.
By setting a new benchmark in transport scalability and power efficiency, the SM family architecture represents a generational leap in metro Ethernet architecture.

Market Leader

Ericsson has proven technology leadership in the fixed and mobile network convergence.
The SM 480 is the first product in a new Metro Ethernet Service Transport family designed to help service providers accelerate the convergence of fixed and mobile networks.
SM 480 leverages the proven capabilities of the SmartEdge Operating System (SEOS) to enable highly scalable and resilient Ethernet services. The SEOS is an award-winning, modular operating system deployed by 75 percent of the top 20 telecommunication companies in the world in both fixed and mobile networks.

Offering Description

Leveraging the network economics of Carrier Ethernet, the Metro Ethernet Service Transport platform enables operators to offer revenue-generating services using their technology of choice for connectivity in a packet-based network.
The SM 480 helps accelerate global adoption of carrier Ethernet in metro networks to support fast-growing, Ethernet-based business, residential triple or multi-play, and mobile backhaul services.
As Ethernet becomes the transport of choice in mobile networks, this innovative platform is helping to facilitate the replacement of more expensive legacy transport networks such as TDM or ATM, providing a smooth transition from legacy connectivity to IP over Ethernet, without costly forklift upgrades.

Improve Performance

The SM 480 is designed for rapid service provisioning, proactive fault monitoring, and comprehensive diagnostic capabilities. When managed by Ericsson’s NetOp management suite, service providers have the power to provision end-to-end VPNs, automate provisioning workflows, and monitor end-to-end services.
