Offering summary

Ericsson’s Mobile Switching portfolio, based on the power and flexibility of its AXE platform, provides efficient switching solutions for classic mobile-switching-center (MSC) based networks. At the same time it ensures a cost-effective evolution path to a standards-based softswitch architecture, where control and connectivity layers are physically separated in different network layers.

The portfolio includes:

  • Ericsson Mobile Softswitch Solution (MSS), comprising Mobile Media Gateway (M-MGw) and MSC Server (MSC-S)
  • Mobile Switching Center (MSC)
  • Signaling Gateway (SGw)
  • IP-Signaling Transfer Point (IP-STP)
  • Transit Switching Center (TSC)

Market leader

Ericsson’s extensive experience and technology competence is reflected in its numerous market firsts, including being first to launch business-critical technology such as 3GPP R4 softswitch architecture and a common GSM/WCDMA core network. Today, an estimated 50 percent of all GSM and WCDMA calls globally are made through Ericsson’s circuit-switched core network solutions.

Evolve the network

Moving from a classic circuit-switched mobile core to a softswitch-based solution ensures a more efficient network design while providing the basis for a smooth introduction of 3G services and a more cost-effective and future-proof all-IP core.

Ericsson’s widely deployed Mobile Softswitch Solution and a common GSM and WCDMA core make this migration possible, quickly and smoothly, while ensuring telecom-grade performance. The migration towards standards-based voice-over-IP with IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is enabled by MSS-IMS interworking functionalities in the mobile switching portfolio.

Improve performance and efficiency

Ericsson’s proven resources and experience in circuit-switched core networks ensure cutting-edge technology, telecom-grade performance for IP networks and comprehensive in-house support for integration and network rollout.

Performance is further enhanced through built-in functionality for network optimization, giving operators the tools to improve service delivery and therefore user satisfaction and revenue.

Ericsson’s commitment to developing network nodes with the smallest footprint and lowest power consumption possible, contribute to reduced operation and maintenance costs and supports sustainable operations.
