Q: Why is Ericsson acquiring Telcordia?

A: Ericsson sees OSS & BSS as key growth areas and aims to strengthen its position within OSS/BSS transformation and mobile broadband support systems. This acquisition provides leading market position and competence within OSS/BSS.

We strengthen our portfolio with complimentary products and multi vendor capabilities. Telcordia also adds core competence and capabilities in multi vendor and multi domain network management. We also get access to new customer segments (among existing wireline customer base). By combining Telcordia’s and Ericsson’s portfolios with our global services presence we will able to grow this business faster than the market over time.

Q: Will Telcordia be fully integrated or not?

A: Telcordia will long-term be fully integrated into Ericsson. Telcordia will initially keep its current structure and be a sub-unit within Business Unit Multimedia. The integration will be conducted in a phased manner during 2012.

Q: What will be the new combined offer to the market?

A: Through the acquisition Ericsson will be an industry leader in the Operations and Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS) market. Our solutions will become a combination of Ericsson products and Telcordia products, and we intend to develop our portfolio towards end-to-end coverage in OSS/BSS.

We have acquired a portfolio both in terms of products and in terms of people and competence. Ericsson now extends its portfolio into multi-vendor OSS, both for fixed and wireless services, we strengthen our already strong portfolio in BSS with a strong online charging offering, we get a new capability in Interconnect solutions and Number portability and we strengthen our abilities in Service Delivery platforms and Telecom application servers.

Q: How will this acquisition benefit customers?

A: The acquisition will bring strengthened capabilities, a broadened portfolio and an expansion in business opportunities. This will give us the best position to support our customers in improving the customer experience, increasing the business efficiency and enable innovation.
