Ericsson selected by Movistar Argentina to expand GSM and transmission networks

October 17, 2005, 10:00 (CEST)

Ericsson will supply EDGE-ready GSM/GPRS 850MHz and 1900MHz radio access and core network to expand Movistar's nationwide GSM network.

Ericsson will also enhance Movistar's access transmission network with MINI-LINK microwave transmission. It includes high capacity radios and smart traffic nodes, together with implementation and professional services. MINI-LINK will help Movistar Argentina to meet demand for mobile voice and data services at lower cost and with increased network control.

Rafael Sancristóbal, Vice President, Customer Unit Telefónica, Ericsson South Latin America, says: "This expansion strengthens Ericsson's end-to-end leadership position in the Argentina telecommunications market and confirms our position as preferred partner and primary supplier to Movistar in Argentina."

Ericsson has operated in Argentina since 1921. Its partnership with Movistar Argentina began in 1995, when Telefónica launched the first nationwide digital mobile network with equipment from Ericsson.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
