Ericsson introduces broadband transformation path with its integrated access and transport portfolio

March 27, 2006, 10:00 (CEST)

The integrated portfolio maximizes the Ericsson strengths following the acquisition of Marconi earlier this year. It enables Ericsson to offer an end-to-end range of infrastructure solutions and services to operators looking to deploy all-IP networks.

Karl Thedeén, Vice President, Wireline, Ericsson, explains: "Operators will be faced with a vast range of strategic and technology choices over the next few years for their broadband transformation. They need an infrastructure partner capable of guiding them through this transformation process and of providing solutions that will support their broadband strategies and business models today and in the future."

"Ericsson is uniquely positioned to become this strong transformation partner. Not only do we now have one of the most comprehensive broadband network ranges in the industry. We also have an unrivalled track record in designing and deploying access and transport networks," he added.

The new broadband network portfolio comprises broadband access solutions such as IP-DSLAMs; IP-Multi-Service Access Nodes (IP-MSANs); microwave and optical transport and Ericsson's IMS and softswitch solutions. The offering will be backed up by the company's extensive design, integration and service capabilities.

Ericsson's broadband network portfolio will also support many of the new access technologies and standards expected to be rolled out widely over the coming years. These include the VDSL2 for high-speed DSL access, Gigabit-Passive Optical Networks (GPON), Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) for Fiber access and radio standards such as WiMAX and HSDPA for Fixed Wireless and Mobile Broadband applications.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
