Ericsson and Jawwal sign EDGE contract in Palestine

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERICY) was awarded with a USD 23 million contract for GSM and GPRS expansions with added EDGE capabilities for the entire network. The expansion will enable Jawwal, Palestine's leading mobile operator, to offer mobile broadband services to 1 million subscribers with EDGE capability.

Ammar Aker, CEO, Jawwal, says: "Our association with Ericsson mainly deepens the strategic relations between the two companies and introduces us to the modern world of telecommunications which enables us to provide the best services."

The contract includes service layer products, such as charging solutions and automatic device configuration (ADC), as well as consulting services.

Björn Eisner, President of Ericsson Israel and Palestine, says: "We are pleased to be able to support Jawwal in this major step towards data services and convergence.  This deal anchored our position as the sole supplier for the entire Jawwal's GSM network."
