Digital. Global. Action – Social Good Summit 2012

We have been supporting Technology for Good and the use of social media to spread the word on the importance of sustainability issues for some time now and we continue to develop new opportunities for engagement. One of the greatest engagement platforms is the Social Good Summit. We are pleased to partner again this year with Mashable, UN Foundation and 92nd Street Y at the Social Good Summit, September 22-24 in New York.

At this year’s Summit, we are also joined by UNDP and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. These new players will help reach an important network of development practitioners and policy leaders who are committed to using technology for good.

This year we all want to get more action through social media. However, social media is just that: a medium. It is what we all do with the information that we receive, read and digest that is important.

While our focus will be about bringing Technology for Good to life throughout the Summit, we will highlight some initiatives where we would like to make a greater impact with the Social Good Summit community. We want participants and viewers to understand how important secondary education is for girls, the enormous impact it has on families, communities and nations and what individuals can do to help. In particular, Connect To Learn, our partnership on secondary education, together with Millenium Promise and the Earth Institute, is a great example of combining the power of advocacy, scholarship and technology.

We will also have a special focus on the use of technology in building peace; how digital tools and social media can help in conflict zones and the relationship between peace and development.

The three-day Summit promises to be very exciting, with an amazing line up of speakers and thought-provoking topics. Please join us, be part of the global conversation and be prepared to take action, every one of us can make a difference. You can participate in New York, online or at any number of global meet-ups.
