Ericsson Time-Critical Communication

The next wave of 5G innovation with Time-Critical Communication

Available in English 简体中文

Imagine providing instant and reliable connections between people and things that matter, when and where it matters the most. Ericsson Time-Critical Communication makes that possible.

What is Time-Critical Communication?

Time-Critical Communication is a new software toolbox utilizing a step-wise approach to remove delay, interrupts, and lags. Check it out!

Ericsson Time-Critical Communication (TCC) is designed to resolve lags and interruptions in 5G networks. It combines the 3GPP-specified ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) standard with Ericsson innovations to resolve major causes of latency and to improve reliability.

This innovate new software toolbox is available through our groundbreaking Ericsson Critical IoT product. It is easily deployable as a software upgrade on public and private networks, on any 5G frequency band.

Ericsson has piloted a wide range of time-critical use cases since 2017 with over 100 industry engagements to become a trusted partner for business innovation and ecosystem support.

Ericsson Time-Critical Communication represents the biggest differentiator between 5G and non-cellular technologies as well as previous generations of cellular systems.

Use case collaborations

Imagine a teledriven electric car turning up outside your home exactly when you need it, you drive it to your destination, you get out and go about your business. No parking to worry about. That’s exactly the concept behind a remote driving or teledriving – a demo that Ericsson, Deutche Telecom and Vay will showcase at MWC 2023.

Time-Critical Communication for consumers

The new 5G solution for Time-Critical Communication will consistently deliver lag-free user experience, paving the way for more captivating, latency-sensitive consumer applications beyond gaming and video streaming.

In addition to the estimated 2.5 billion mobile gamers globally today who will benefit from unrivaled lag-free mobile gaming experiences, we expect that all 5G users will be thrilled with the new innovative, more immersive XR experiences enabled by the new solution.

Tim Friedland, CEO at forwARdgame
"From a game developer perspective, it is ideal to be free from the need to account for lags and inconsistent latencies, being able to only concentrate on realizing our ideas for experiences" "We make Active AR games that feel real. And real has no lag. Real is immediate and perfectly synchronized between all the participants - you see what I see."
Phyllis Cheng, Vice President of Sales at Ubitus
"We expect the new feature that addresses consistent low latency, together with Ubitus’ leading cloud gaming technology, to further lower the barrier to stream latency-sensitive games such as fighting, shooting and racing, and ultimately enhance gaming experience for users."

Time-Critical Communication for enterprises

Time-Critical Communication offers highly reliable connectivity for real-time data transfer for enterprises, enabling a variety of latency-sensitive use cases in real-time media, remote control, industrial control, and mobility automation categories across industries.  Millions of smart factories and warehouses around the world will benefit from higher levels of automation,  agility, and safety thanks to  Time-Critical Communication from Ericsson. Productivity and efficiency will increase with the introduction of AR/VR technologies for production and collaboration.

Listen to Ognjen Dobrijevic, Senior Scientist , ABB, and Pietro Falco, Senior Scientist, ABB, take a deep dive into a new use case with Time-Critical Communication.

Pietro Falco, Senior Scientist, Corporate Research at ABB
“5G is very important, specially the bounded latency is critical for the robot to move properly and in a safe way, because if the robot does not proceed the next command in time, then the robot has to stop or it can create safety problems.”

Time-Critical Communication for the public sector

Time-Critical Communication coupled with edge computing and artificial intelligence will enable new use cases such as VR/AR command room, real-time automated monitoring and control of power grid, and remote control of train engines communication with highly reliable, low latency performance. By adopting advanced mission-critical 5G services, governments, public safety, utilities, and railway industries can gain total visibility and control – taking operations to a new level, from the control room to the field, to stay ahead of the situations and threats. Decisions will be based on real-time situational awareness, allowing public agencies to act with greater precision to protect people, personnel, and properties.
