      Sub-terahertz communication in 6G

The 90-300 GHz sub-THz range was initially suggested as a potential frequency range for 6G. Currently it is not part of the regulatory discussions on 6G spectrum but is left for future analysis to resolve the challenges associated with the use of such spectrum, including for instance the challenging propagation conditions. In addition, limited availability of commercial radio frequency components would impact the detailed design of a sub-THz system.

Any future operation in these frequency bands would be limited to very specific scenarios where extreme data rates or low latency in local areas are required.

Sub-THz is not considered for the IMT identification at WRC-27. Any inclusion in future WRC discussions is for further consideration.

In conclusion, sub-THz spectrum is not considered for near- or medium-term use in mobile systems.
