Ericsson recognized a Leader in 2021 Magic Quadrant

Our focused strategy with increased investment in R&D and technology leadership is paying off. Through our competitive portfolio we power more live 5G networks across five continents than any other vendor. That dedication to R&D and customer focus have now been recognized in the Gartner 2021 Magic Quadrant for 5G Network Infrastructure for Communications Service Providers.

We made investments early on to develop a 5G platform that would enable a smooth transition from existing mobile technologies to 5G. Instead of reinventing the wheel, we’ve further developed our products and solutions, enabling our customers to build on their existing network investments. We set out to make the switch to 5G as easy as possible and that’s exactly what we’ve achieved.

A 5G leader in the 2020’s

I’m confident that we today are a leader in 5G with more than 130 commercial agreements and 79 live networks across five continents.  Our 5G platform encompasses Ericsson Radio System, 5G Core, Orchestration and 5G Transport, as well as professional services – a comprehensive offering that we believe help us maintain a strong position to accelerate 5G worldwide. Our dedication to create a stellar 5G portfolio to the benefit of our customers has so far resulted in the following:

  • Commercial leadership — with the highest number of 5G agreements and contracts in place, providing us with useful insights about 5G deployments and use cases around the world that we are happy to share with customers and the industry.
  • 5G technology evolution leadership, with innovative solutions such as Ericsson Spectrum Sharing, 5G carrier aggregation, and Ericsson Uplink Booster. These have given our customers a first-mover advantage and the ability to scale 5G faster.
  • Time-to-market leadership, through our six million radios within Ericsson Radio System shipped since 2015 that can support 5G with a remote software installation. We believe that this foresight in developing products with flexible design enables Ericsson customers to launch commercial 5G networks earlier than with our competitors.

A Leader in the Gartner 2021 Magic Quadrant

Every year, industry analyst firm Gartner evaluates and recognizes vendors’ offerings in wireless technologies. In its 2021 5G network infrastructure report, Ericsson is recognized as a Leader. We were noted for the completeness of our vision and our ability to execute an end-to-end platform. This acknowledgment has great meaning for us because I believe it affirms our commitment to our customers to provide them with the best products and people to meet their needs.

A better 5G

Today, more than a billion people live in an area with 5G coverage. That’s 15 percent of the world’s population! By the end of 2026, we expect to see 3.5 billion 5G subscriptions globally, which is about 40 percent of all mobile subscriptions by that time. You can find more 5G facts and figures in the latest Ericsson Mobility Report.

After initial deployments in many countries, now is the time to scale up. High-performing 5G wireless networks are needed for a wide variety of use cases, including mission-critical communications – not least in supporting economic and social recovery from the current pandemic. It’s no exaggeration to say that 5G presents a huge opportunity to drive digital transformation and innovation that will boost business growth, benefiting hundreds of millions of consumers.

We’re constantly pushing the limits of what our technology can achieve, and, in collaboration with our partners, we are making history. Continuous development and a clear customer focus have led us to create a 5G platform that doesn’t only cater for switching on 5G, but also supports today’s cloudified technologies, such as Cloud RAN and Cloud Core. With significant investments in R&D we have been able to drive both technology leadership and cost efficiency, which in turn has resulted in a strong 5G portfolio, a stronger market presence and a platform to build on for the future.

In a nutshell we’re working hard to ensure that our customers have secure, sustainable, and high-performing networks as a platform for growth and innovation.

We are grateful for this industry-wide acknowledgment. With new and long-standing customer partnerships and ecosystem collaborations, we will continue investing in technology to shape and lead the mobile industry together.
