Gino joined Ericsson in 1999, working at first with MINI-LINK antennas and network planning, and then in MMIC design. Since 2009, he works with 4G and 5G RAN architecture. He has worked in standards since 2001, representing Ericsson in 3GPP, ETSI, ITU, and CEPT. Active in 3GPP for more than 15 years, he was elected 3GPP RAN WG3 Chair for two terms, overseeing the standardization of NG-RAN architecture.
Before joining Ericsson, Gino worked as a researcher at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, for the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) on millimeter wave propagation modeling, contributing to preliminary research for radio propagation experiments in space.
Gino is the co-author of more than 80 patents, three recent books on 5G and 5G NTN, and a number of scientific articles. He holds an M.Sc. in Electronics Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, an MBA from SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milano, Italy, and a Six Sigma Green Belt certification. He received the 3GPP Excellence Award in 2022.
Gino Masini is also a pianist, holding a 10th year Diploma from the G. Verdi Conservatory of Music in Milano, Italy.
