Henning's main focus is concept development for the new 6G radio access technology.
He had a leading role in the control- and user plane protocol design of 4G LTE and 5G NR and contributed to the standardization of those systems in 3GPP. He led the 3GPP RAN2 working group as chairman from 2011 to 2015.
Henning received the Ericsson "Inventor of the Year" award in 2012. In 2014, he and Ericsson colleagues were among the finalists for the European Inventor Award for their contributions to LTE.
He holds a Dipl-Ing. in electrical engineering fromt RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He joined Ericsson Research in 2000.
