Mirja’s work is focused on transport protocol evolution. She has been active in IETF standardization since 2009, where she is a member of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB). She also co-chairs the Measurement and Analysis for Protocols research group (maprg) in the Internet Research Task Force.
Mirja joined Ericsson Research in February 2019. Before this she worked as a Post-Doc at the Networked Systems Group (NSG) of the Computer Engineering and Networks Laboratory at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, on topics around Internet measurements and transport protocol design. She received her PhD in 2015 from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in the field of TCP congestion control.
From March 2020 to March 2024, Mirja served as Chair of the IAB. From April 2016 to March 2020, she was an IETF Transport Area Director (AD). She is an author in multiple working groups, including QUIC, TCP maintenance and minor extension (tcpm), and Transport Services (taps), and has also been co-chair of the IETF’s RTP Media Congestion Avoidance Techniques (rmcat) and TCP increased security (tcpinc) working groups.
