My journey as a Software Developer at Ericsson Hungary Packet Core

I have been at Ericsson for nearly 10 years and have been in my current role as Master Software Developer in the Cloud Native Team within Packet Core, for a little more than one year.

It’s been an interesting journey working at Ericsson. I joined Ericsson because I find the telecoms industry exciting, it moves really fast, and it constantly leverages cutting-edge technology. At Ericsson there is also the possibility of making an impact by developing software that affects billions of people.

There are three things which has really stood out for me during my years at Ericsson.

Training and support 

The training and support at Ericsson is incredible. About a year ago, I started a new assignment with a completely new team. The product I was working on was new to me and the team, but we were given a lot of support for the quick onboarding. There were well-structured and well-presented trainings to make sure we received as much technical knowledge as we could. There was also a dedicated product development team in Sweden who had more experience with the product who we could reach out to with questions. This is all a result of Ericsson's outstanding company culture, we try to help each other as much as possible.

Career Development

The culture of career development and support is important at Ericsson, and I have experienced this through my relationships with my line managers. I started as a Software Developer and later became a Technical Lead; after that I had the possibility to try out a technical leadership role as a Product Owner. I realized I prefer more technology-oriented positions, so I’ve had the opportunity to continue as a Master Software Developer.  When I moved into this role a little more than a year ago, I was given the support I needed to feel comfortable and confident that I could do my job properly. Managers here are interested in my career plans for the next one, two, even five years, there is always an ongoing discussion, and they give me clear guidance on expectations and how to achieve them.

Improving lives

The support I have received through my years at Ericsson either through training or from my team has meant that I can focus on improving lives through the work I do. At Ericsson, there is a real possibility of making an impact that affects billions of people. Not many companies offer their developers the possibility to have such a big positive impact on people and society as Ericsson does through technologies like 5G.
