Today, Telstra is a world-leader in 5G. Ericsson and Telstra partnered early on to pioneer 5G technology in Australia, working together in rolling-out what became the first live 5G network in the Southern Hemisphere. Telstra’s 5G footprint continues to grow and our partnership will ensure that we continue to deliver market-leading innovations together in networks from Australia to the world.

Partnering for success in 5G networks
The strategic partnership developed between Telstra and Ericsson has developed over decades, and has resulted in more than over 45 world and Australian firsts so far, including some of the most groundbreaking milestones in 5G. The strength of the partnership has enabled Ericsson to bring trailblazing global innovations to Telstra’s network in Australia while Telstra has been able to provide inputs to the way Ericsson brings products and services to market.
Pioneering 5G
Ericsson is Telstra’s strategic partner for the roll-out of the service provider's 5G network, carrying out end-to-end project management for the whole project. Additional services delivered as part of the project include the site survey, engineering, site preparations, installation, integration, and optimization of the network.
In May 2019, Telstra and Ericsson rolled-out and activated 5G together in 10 cities in Australia. Today, Telstra’s 5G footprint has been extended to over 30 cities around the country and there are plans to continue expanding the network over the coming months. Telstra and Ericsson also joined forces with several best-in-class partners to build an end-to-end 5G ecosystem. This facilitated the early launch of Telstra’s 5G commercial network, the first in Australia and the first in the Southern Hemisphere.
