Telia achieves network excellence after longstanding Ericsson collaboration

At the end of 2023, Telia achieved the prestigious "Outstanding" rating from Umlaut for their mobile network in Sweden. This achievement is the culmination of a 40-year collaboration with Ericsson and a testament to Telia’s consistent excellence as one of the industry’s best service providers with world-leading network performance.
With this constant focus on providing a high-performing network based on customer needs, Telia scored an exceptional 968 points out of 1,000 in Umlaut’s rigorous mobile performance network benchmarking. The score places them among the top six highest-ranked mobile networks globally.

Since the early 1980’s Telia and Ericsson have been working closely to help the service provider in its mission to achieve network excellence and provide the best possible customer experience.
This has led to a collaboration that has resulted in several telecommunications breakthroughs over the decades, such as the world’s first commercial 4G network in Stockholm back in 2009.
Today, Telia’s 5G network reaches over 90% of the Swedish population and in their continuous bid for performance leadership, they aim to reach 99.9% in 2025.
Telia’s performance leadership has resulted in the service provider being ranked in the top six globally by the benchmarking company Umlaut. In fact, Umlaut rated Telia as ‘Outstanding,’ the first in Sweden to receive this level of excellence.

How do you remain relevant year on year and continue to lead the industry in your field of expertise? Telia has constantly been on a mission to provide the best possible experience to its customers, whether that be providing the first mobile phone calls in the 1980’s to achieving higher data rates with perfect connectivity in recent years.
To be the best today, the service provider has to get ready for tomorrow. That’s easier said than done. How do you make the right predictions and then choose the right investments so that you continuously stay ahead of the game and are always there with the best possible network for your customers?

Collaboration is the key and in the past 40 years, Telia and Ericsson have been working closely together to make sure the Swedish service provider is ahead of the game.
That partnership has most recently led to a 5G network rollout in 2018 and a continuous drive today to reach 99.9% of the population by 2025. 90% of the country had 5G coverage by the end of 2023.
Today, they are also looking ahead together at 5G Advanced and beyond. Working together with Ericsson and its global network of expertise, Telia is able to maintain its’ 5G leadership, intertwined with a commitment to customers and overarching goal to "Reinvent better connected living".
