Terms and conditions
The award may be subject to taxes at varying levels depending on the winners’ country. It is the winners’ responsibility to comply with any and all tax requirements, including but not limited to the payment of any prize tax. All costs associated with currency exchange are the sole responsibility of the winners.
To be eligible to compete for regional prizes, semi-finalist mentoring and finalist prizes, each team (“registrant”) shall submit a complete registration between the open registration dates listed on https://www.ericsson.com/eia
A complete registration includes (i) a grouping of 2-4 university students. To qualify as a “university student,” each team member must be pursuing a higher vocational or academic degree (undergraduate, graduate, or doctorate), graduating on or after the end date of the semi-finalist period, (ii) completion in full of the registration form connected to https://www.ericsson.com/eia, including a stated problem, customer, solution, innovative aspect, and a 2 page pamphlet. To qualify, all submissions must be in English, unless otherwise stated on a regional competition page. Any regional competition submissions accepted in languages other than English must be translated after the regional phase in order to move on to the semi-finalist round and be eligible for judging.
Each primary team member may only submit 1 registration. Additional team members may submit additional registrations with a different primary team member. However, each student may only be a member of 1 team in the regional winner, semi-finalist and finalist phases.
A student may be prohibited or suspended from participating in the contest if Ericsson, at its sole discretion, reasonably believes that such party has attempted to undermine the legitimate operation of the contest by, interring an alias, cheating, deception, or other unfair playing practices, providing false or misleading information, or if a student annoys, abuses, threatens or harasses any other participants in the contest, or if the student infringes any intellectual property right. A student may also be suspended and disqualified form participation in the event the student makes disparaging remarks about Ericsson, its associated agencies on social and digital media, or through the use of any other intermediaries, including but not limited to representatives of the media.
Ericsson reserves the right to disqualify any submissions that are interpreted as derogatory or discriminatory against individuals or groups based on gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religion or any other faction. Ericsson reserves the discretionary right to disqualify submissions that suggest activities that are illegal in the country in which the submitting student resides, or submissions that suggest activities that could cause significant business loss to Ericsson or associated partners or may for other reasons be deemed inappropriate.
Employees of any company within the Ericsson Group cannot participate. However, current and former interns, co-ops, and family members of employees may participate, so long as the family members are not related to judges or individuals who can directly influence prizes or competition status.
Submissions connected to a startup or business must be student-owned and not funded by a non-academic company, agency or organization at the time of registration or during the course of the competition. Any supporting individuals outside of the maximum 4 team members must meet the same qualification standards required of the registrant, with the exception of any university faculty or professor providing support or guidance. Any failure to comply could result in disqualification.
Ericsson reserves the right to substitute a prize with an item of equal or greater value in the event that all or part of a prize becomes unavailable. Prizes are awarded without warranty of any kind from Ericsson, express or implied, without limitation, except where this would be contrary to federal, state or local laws or regulations. Prize taxes are to be paid by the winner. Return of any prize/prize notification may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. Any potential winner who cannot be contacted within 7 days of attempted first notification will forfeit his/her prize/award.
Progressing to the regional winner, semi-finalist or finalist round may involve a recruiter interview. However, it in no way guarantees employment in the form of an internship, co-op, contract or full-time capacity. If a registrant is offered employment by Ericsson during or after the period of the competition, the offer of employment will be in alignment with the needs and requirements of the position, and not with those of the competition. No employment offers during the period of the competition will have any weight on the registrant’s status or consideration for prizes or awards.
Registrants who progress to the finalist round will receive a paid trip to the city hosting the Grand Final. In order to receive this prize, all team members must submit necessary visa information and be approved for entry into the hosting country, in accordance with the visa laws of the hosting country at the time of travel. The cost of the visa is the sole responsibility of the registrant. Any registrants who do not have a passport, do not qualify for a visa, or are unable to enter the hosting country at the time of the Grand Final based on the laws and regulations of that country, will not be given a prize equal to the value of the cost of travel. However, their team will still be eligible to compete for the grand prize.
Travel to the Grand Final event will include for each registrant: airfare to and from the home country, hotel accommodation, transport to and from the airport in the country hosting the Grand Final, 1 piece of checked baggage, a metro card and pre-determined group meals. Ericsson will also pay for coordinated events and activities participated in by all finalists. Ericsson will not support airfare, a travel or work visa for finalists outside of the period of time determined as the ‘Grand Final.’ Ericsson will not cover extra airfare due to missing the flight on personal reasons and not airline related. Ericsson will not provide any additional airfare, meals, experiences or accommodation for spouses, family members, friends, classmates or unregistered team members who may wish to accommodate the registered members. Registrants may choose to bring guests at their own expense.
Hotel accommodation will be supplied according to the following: (i) 1 room with 2 beds for 2 team members of the same gender, and/or; (ii) 2 rooms with 1 bed each for 2 team members if those individuals are of different genders, and/or; (iii) 2 rooms for 3 to 4 team members, regardless of gender. Ericsson will consider special needs to room allocation and accompanying persons based on cultural or religious requirements but remain free to determine what the most appropriate accommodation is. All special needs must be submitted to the event manager immediately once finalists are announced.
Intellectual property rights
Ericsson shall have the right to use, copy, modify and make available to the public the submitted application in connection with the operation, conduct, administration and advertising and promotion of the contest via communication to the public, and in all types of marketing, beta-testing and demonstration activities. This also includes, but is not limited, to the right to make the submitted application available for trial purposes on similar terms. Ericsson also reserves the right to hold finalist team Minimum Viable Products (MVP) at the studio in Kista for a period of time not to exceed 6 months. After the period of time has commenced, Ericsson will coordinate and fund any costs required to ship the MVP back to the registrants. The intellectual and industrial property rights to the contest submission, if any, will remain with the registrants, except that these terms do not supersede any other assignment or grant of rights according to any other separate agreements between registrants and other parties. For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in these terms and conditions or the competition constitutes a transfer of any intellectual property rights independently developed by Ericsson prior to, in parallel or after the competition.
Each student acknowledges and agrees that in connection with the contest personal data, including but not limited to name and address, may be collected from him/her. Each such person hereby acknowledges and consents that Ericsson may process and store data in different locations in the world, including non-EU countries, and display such personal data to the public and otherwise use it for the purposes and within the context of the contest, both current and in future iterations or as outlined in these terms and conditions or other requirements relating to the competition The personal data will be kept secure and deleted when no longer needed. Furthermore, such persons have a right to access and rectify any personal data held by Ericsson through contacting Ericsson at the e-mail address: email@example.com
Warranty and indemnity
Each student warrants that the registration submitted by his or her team is an original work and that they are the sole and exclusive owner and right holder thereof, and that they have the right to submit the application in the contest. Any indication which is to the contrary of the aforementioned requirement will lead to disqualification.
Each student agrees and undertakes not to submit any registration that (i) infringes any 3rd party proprietary, intellectual property, industrial property, personal rights or other rights, including without limitation, copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or confidentiality obligation; or (ii) otherwise violates applicable law in any relevant countries in the world. To the maximum extent permitted by law, each student indemnifies and agrees to keep indemnified Ericsson, its affiliates (meaning any legal entity that directly or indirectly controls, is controlled by, or under common control with Ericsson), agents, directors, officers, employees, representatives and assigns harmless at all times from and against any liability, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs and expenses resulting from any act, default or omission of the participant and/or a breach of any warranty set forth herein.
Exclusion of liability
Ericsson is not responsible for electronic transmission errors resulting in omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission. Ericsson is not responsible for theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions or limitations of any kind. Ericsson is not responsible for inaccurate transmissions of or failure to receive entry information by Ericsson on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or any combination thereof. Ericsson is not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing of the offer, administration of the contest or in the announcement of the prize.
To the extent permitted by law, the rules, terms and conditions for the contest are governed by the laws of Sweden, excluding its provisions on conflict of law. All disputes arising out of or in connection with the present Contractual Documents as outlined below shall be finally settled under the Rules of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce by one arbitrator appointed in accordance with the said Rules. The seat of arbitration shall be Stockholm and the language of the proceedings English. To the extent permitted by law, each party shall carry its own costs. If rendered by the tribunal, Ericsson shall pay the arbitration fees of both parties, provided such fees are reasonable.
The participation in the contest is governed by (i) these Ericsson Application Awards terms and conditions, (ii) the rules which can be found at https://www.ericsson.com/eia, and (iii) in respect of a company, the submitted registration form.
In the case of inconsistencies, these documents will prevail in accordance with the above order, unless an explicitly reference has been made in the subordinated document to the effect that a specific provision shall prevail notwithstanding certain provisions in the superior document.

Important notice: fraudulent job offers
It has come to our attention that emails and job adverts have been created and circulated by unknown individuals for the purpose of attempting to defraud candidates.
Potential candidates should be wary of approaches that appear to be offering a job for which they have not applied, especially if personal details or money must be sent in order to proceed with the recruitment. Neither Ericsson nor any commissioned third parties recruit in this manner. Such approaches are almost certainly fraudulent attempts to gain details of identity for illegal use.
