With more than 60,000 granted patents, our inventors have established Ericsson as a technology leader in the telecommunications industry. The value created by these patents allows us to keep investing in research to further shape the future of global connectivity. Meet this year’s winners.
Mattias Bergström
Mattias is a Principal Researcher whose patents span many aspects of radio network architecture and protocols. He has pioneered flagship 3GPP features which include Carrier Aggregation and Dual Connectivity, and has a portfolio which expands into extended reality (XR), network energy savings, drones and non-terrestrial networks. Mattias is renowned for his pivotal role in patent development at Ericsson and for mentoring junior colleagues in patent creation to help build a collaborative atmosphere.
Qian Chen
As a Senior Specialist, Qian’s inventions support key technologies including access control, mobility and core network functions for the support of different devices including IoT. Some of his most notable work is crucial to supporting areas such as RedCap devices, radio with mobility and network exposure, which in turn helps develop Ericsson’s Packet Core offering. Qian’s significant role ensures Ericsson’s innovations remain at the forefront of the industry, and he is a highly esteemed expert in network patent innovations.
Stefan Wager
Stefan is a Principal Researcher with a diverse patent portfolio that has spanned all generations of 3GPP RAN technologies, from 3G to the upcoming 6G. His recent contributions have focused around advancing mobility and multi-connectivity strategies for NR and 6G. He is a role model for the team, excelling as both an inventor and a reviewer of patent innovations. With a talent for clarifying complex subjects, Stefan is esteemed for his profound technical expertise and his collaborative approach to patent filing.
