rApp Related Services
The concept of rApps is defined by Open RAN and rApps play a crucial role in the Open RAN ecosystem. The rApps are software application designed to run on the Non-Real Time RAN Intelligent Controller (from now on the Non-RT RIC) to realize different RAN management and optimization use cases in an automated way, with control loops on a time scale of one second and longer. Ericsson extends the scope of the rApps to purpose-built RAN in addition to O-RAN definition.
An rApp uses the capabilities exposed by the Non-RT RIC over the R1 interface to realize autonomous network management and optimization use cases. The Ericsson Intelligent Controller (EIC) is Ericsson’s realization of the Non-Real Time RIC as part of the Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform.
Ericsson's Network Open RAN Services portfolio's portfolio also offers comprehensive services for rApps, ensuring efficient deployment, integration, lifecycle management, and support. These services are highly effective and crucial for programmable networks, as they enable advanced automation, optimization, and customization.
With a strong track record of never compromising on performance, Network services now deliver these benefits with the utmost expertise and experience. Offering rApps services provides significant value by enabling cost-efficient, scalable, and energy-efficient network operations, enhancing performance, fostering innovation through vendor-neutral solutions, and delivering a superior user experience, key elements that are highly valuable for Communication Service Providers (CSPs) and telecom networks utilizing rApps.
