RAN Connect

Ericsson RAN Connect allows CSPs to aggregate radio traffic to a high-capacity fronthaul interface, unlocking the full potential of modern RAN Compute capabilities.
The RAN evolution will create new fronthaul opportunities. This is why we’re introducing the new RAN Connect portfolio. A canvas to create efficiency and openness.
- To create greater radio site scalability and performance to fully leverage the compute power in RAN Compute
- To utilize the bandwidth efficiencies and operational opportunities that come with packetization in fronthaul
- To allow for increased observability and manageability for open fronthaul
Efficiency
Unleash the full potential of RAN Compute
through improved utilization of the compute power.
It enables up to 33% more radios per RAN Compute
Resilience
Industry leading sync solution with RAN centric sync
features and simultaneous fronthaul and backhaul
sync support. Up to 15x longer hold-over for TDD radios
Ready for the future
Enables an easy evolution to Cloud RAN deployments as well as Centralized RAN by taking the first step aggregating to a common fronthaul interface. With this first step, all possibilities are open for new network architectures and increased traffic.
Empowering high performing programmable networks
Communication service providers are in a constant strive to offer the best performance and reliability with the lowest possible TCO while increasing their sustainability. Creating radio solutions that meet the precise needs of the service providers is more than a science or a business. It is an art form.
5G & beyond: Ericsson solutions to exceed 5G expectations
The RAN evolution will change the Fronthaul part of the network and open up for new opportunities. The fronthaul interface is moving from TDM based CPRI and becoming packetized using eCPRI. Instead of vendor specific protocols, open fronthaul is introduced. We also foresee a move from very static connections (from radio A to interface B on the baseband) to both being dynamic in nature and a true network with any-to-any connectivity. In addition, the compute power in the basebands have increased substantially enabling increased support for more radios/cells per baseband. This drives the need for a new portfolio to cater for new requirements of Open Fronthaul – Ericsson RAN Connect.
