RET
Reliable and adaptive antenna tilt control is essential for achieving optimal network performance. Ericsson’s Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) system enables precise, remote adjustment of antenna tilt angles, ensuring that each cell site delivers the right coverage and capacity at every moment—without requiring physical intervention on site. RET is a key enabler for dynamic network optimization, energy efficiency, and multi-operator site sharing.
Smart Optimization with Ericsson rApps:
To unlock the full value of RET automation, Ericsson’s RET Cell Shaper rApp adds AI‑driven intelligence on top of the hardware layer. Using reinforcement learning techniques, the rApp continuously learns how network performance responds to antenna tilt adjustments at the cell level. It optimizes tilt settings automatically to improve performance KPIs such as:
- Up to 11% increase in downlink throughput at cluster level
- Up to 7% reduction in downlink congestion
Precise, Real‑Time coverage adjustment
RET allows the antenna’s electrical tilt to be changed remotely, enabling the network to adapt coverage and capacity based on actual conditions and traffic patterns. This ensures the intended service footprint is maintained without physical site visits.
Automatic correction of tilt deviations
Small deviations in tilt or azimuth can degrade throughput and coverage performance. With RET working together with the AMU, even minor misalignments are detected early and corrected electrically, restoring the antenna’s original performance baseline.
Secure and controlled network configuration
RET operates through a restricted, encrypted interface, reducing exposure to external vulnerabilities. Only trusted, authorized software and configurations can be applied, strengthening the integrity of the antenna system.
