With a large part of energy consumption occuring in the radio access network (RAN), it is crucial to focus on RAN energy performance improvements to be able to limit the increase and even break the curve of power consumption.

The best improvements can be achieved by modernized to Ericsson Radio System equipment, as new radios and basebands are far more energy efficient than legacy equipment.

Our intelligent RAN energy-saving software features are optimized for the Ericsson Radio System, and will help operators to significantly reduce energy consumption.

This can be achieved by automatically deactivating not required capacity during low and medium traffic loads. By performing advanced measurements, that predict traffic patterns, traffic load, and end-user needs, from cell down to subframe levels. Based on this data, it is possible to dynamically activate RAN Compute and radio equipment to achieve the lowest possible energy consumption with maintained network performance.
