Ericsson Canada has collaborated with over 20 Canadian universities since 2013, contributing close to $25M towards academic research. This includes hundreds of projects in important technological areas such as Cloud, 5G, Security, Quantum, Photonics and AI for operations, manufacturing and network evolution. Investing in research and development is important to our future. That’s why we continue to build and strengthen new relationships with universities and the academic research sector.

University partnerships

Concordia University

Ericsson Canada has a long history of academic and industrial collaboration with Concordia University which includes the creation of two Research Chairs and an innovative, tailor-made AI upskill program for Ericsson employees. Researchers collaborate on projects in tailored clinics to apply their learning in real- time.

Carleton University

Ericsson and Carleton University of Ottawa joined forces in 2020 to advance world-class talent development programs for engineers and computer scientists going into the wireless communications industry to generate state-of-the-art research in this critical field. A new $2-million Ericsson Chair in 5G Wireless Research to explore solutions to the real-world application challenges of 5G was established in 2022.

Ericsson Canada has partnered with ÉTS for ten years and was recently named as their Partner of Excellence in research and innovation. We have funded major telecommunications research projects, including the Evolution of Cloud Services in the Quebec-Ontario Corridor for Research and Innovation (ENCQOR) project.
