Imagine using just 7 Radio Units to carry 8 bands on a 3-sector site, including Dual-band Massive-MIMO.  Traditionally, this would have required 24 units. But with Ericsson’s state-of-the-art Triple-band Multi-sector Radios, along with a TDD and FDD combined Radio in mid-band, and a Dual-band Massive-MIMO Dual-band Radio in the TDD mid-band, it's now possible!

Ericsson is that Partner.

Ericsson developed a solution designed for the African Markets, which is unique in three aspects:

  1. The only vendor with a multisector Triple-band Radio in low band (6646)
  2. FDD and TDD combined in a Triple-band Radio (4466)
  3. Dual-band 32T/R M-MIMO Antenna Integrated Radio (3229)

All with a customer experience/energy performance that is the best in the industry.

Radio 6646 provides great flexibility for multiple types of deployments with a minimal site footprint. It is an outdoor 6T/6R FDD 3-sector Triple-band Macro Radio, supporting 900/800/700, 3 sectors, 2T 2R in one box. It is also 60 percent lighter in weight and 40 percent lower in energy consumption vis-à-vis the Triple-band Single-sector radios.  So it is not only performing on power but also on tower load leading to lower costs with your Towerco, less cost in tower reinforcement, and more revenue from partners as you have more space to rent out.

We recently introduced this new Triple-band FDD +TDD, a Single-sector radio that can replace up to nine radios in Vodafone Egypt. The value proposition we mentioned has been demonstrated in the field and has been widely publicized. Radio 4466, an Ericsson Radio System product, will support communication service providers (CSPs) to simultaneously enable 5G and 4G services across 1800MHz, 2100MHz, and 2600MHz (TDD) spectrum layers with a single unit, minimizing the number of equipment normally required.

The Dual-band Antenna Integrated Radio (AIR) 3229 is available in combinations of 2300MHz and 3500MHz or 2600MHz and 3500MHz in TDD. It consists of 32 transmitters and 32 receivers per band and has 192 antenna elements, with an output power of up to 400 W. Energy consumption is reduced by 20 percent compared to Single-band radios and the tower footprint is reduced by 50 percent.

Continuous product development and innovation from Ericsson will enable our customers to excel in network evolution with optimum sustainability, quality, and simplicity.  Our investment in R&D specifically for Africa was evident with the widely deployed Radio 6626, and this next generation of the 6646 and the 3229 is taking 4G and 5G to the next level.
