This year, Ericsson proudly celebrates 60 years of partnership and progress in Kuwait. When we opened our first technical office in 1965, few could have imagined how profound connectivity would transform societies, industries, and economies. From the country’s first crossbar switching systems to today’s cloud-native 5G networks, our journey stands as a testament to Ericsson’s purpose of enabling progress through connectivity and Kuwait’s unwavering vision for a connected future.
From early vision to digital leadership
Kuwait recognized early-on the transformative potential of telecommunications. In the 1970s, the country became one of the first worldwide to deploy Ericsson’s computer-controlled crossbar system ARE, a milestone in automation and reliability. Just a few years later, in 1977, Kuwait became the first non-European nation to adopt the AXE system, signaling a bold commitment to modernization and technological excellence. By the late 1980s, Kuwait entered the mobile era, with Ericsson supporting the launch of the country’s first analog mobile network laying the foundations for a connected society that continues to evolve today.
Accelerating Kuwait’s 5G ambition
Six decades later, Kuwait stands at the forefront of the region’s digital transformation. By 2028, 5G is projected to account for more than 90 percent of all mobile subscriptions across the Gulf Cooperation Council region, with Kuwait among the markets leading this transformation through its early investments and digital ambition.
Ericsson is proud to power this progress through long-term partnerships that modernize Business Support Systems, enable 5G Standalone Charging, and deploy cloud-native network solutions that support real-time, personalized experiences and new service capabilities. Together, we are creating a future-ready infrastructure that connects communities, empowers enterprises, and accelerates Kuwait’s digital economy.
Supporting Kuwait vision 2035
Our work in Kuwait aligns closely with Kuwait Vision 2035, which positions digital infrastructure as a cornerstone of sustainable national growth.
Ericsson collaborates with communication service providers and industry partners to enhance connectivity, modernize infrastructure, and expand digital access, fostering an ecosystem that drives innovation and inclusion.
Today, digital infrastructure is as essential as roads, ports, or power grids. It fuels competitiveness, enables smarter public services, and strengthens national resilience. By combining Ericsson’s global expertise with Kuwait’s ambitions, we help transform strategic vision into measurable progress.
Driving sustainable digitalization
Kuwait’s target of net-zero emissions by 2050 aligns with Ericsson’s own Net Zero 2040 commitment.
Together with our industry partners, we are embedding sustainability across the entire network lifecycle, from AI-powered energy optimization to energy-efficient 5G deployments.
These technologies allow operators to expand capacity while reducing environmental impact, proving that growth and responsibility can coexist. In today’s interconnected world, energy efficiency is both an environmental and a business imperative, enabling digital infrastructure to scale sustainably.
The next chapter
For six decades, our story in Kuwait has been one of partnership, trust, and shared ambition.
From the first switching systems to 5G Advanced and AI-driven automation, we have seen how connectivity has the power to transform lives, industries, and societies.
As Kuwait continues its digital journey, the convergence of 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things will open new frontiers powering smarter industries enabling reliable mission-critical connectivity, and accelerating enterprise innovation that drives sustainable growth and national resilience for generations to comeAt Ericsson, we remain deeply committed to Kuwait’s digital future continuously advancing connectivity, driving innovation, and achieving new milestones as we shape more connected and resilient tomorrow together.
