      Ericsson in Italy

The history of Ericsson in Italy began in 1918, at a time when telephony was scarce, with just one telephone for every 500 people.

Ericsson revolutionized telecommunications in the country with innovations such as the Bakelite desk phone, national teledialing, and digital exchanges, and played a pivotal role in mobile telephony with E-TACS, GSM, and the prepaid card. It was instrumental in developing Italy’s 3G network and achieving milestones like world-record Internet speeds through Italian collaborations.

Today, Ericsson is a leader in 5G development and a key provider of telecommunications infrastructure, collaborating with major operators nationwide. With three R&D centers and a focus on innovation, Ericsson continues to enhance connectivity, empower businesses, and shape a sustainable future.
