Mainland China
Long journey in China
Ericsson provided solutions for China for the first time in 1892. Since then, Ericsson has been contributing to the development of each generation of mobile technologies in China's communications industry. Ericsson is the only communications equipment provider that has participated in the construction of China’s mobile communications networks from the first generation all the way to the fifth generation. We will continue to be a trusted partner for Chinese customers, just like when we started our journey in China more than 128 years ago.
Drive growth through innovation
Innovation has been at the core of Ericsson's strategy, and this has never changed. Ericsson is dedicated to making China its cornerstone for R&D in the world. We have been increasing our spending on R&D and innovation in China. At present, Ericsson's annual R&D spending in China is over RMB 3 billion; more than 5,500 employees are working full-time on R&D in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Nanjing; Nanjing Ericsson Panda Communications Co. Ltd. is Ericsson's top R&D facility in the world and one of the supply and production centers; Ericsson has built the world's most advanced darkroom for electromagnetic testing at its Wangjing campus in Beijing; and the Ericsson China Academy was established in 1997, to train high-quality technical and management professionals for China's communications industry.

Ericsson Japan at a glance
Ericsson in Japan began operations in 1985 ahead of national deregulation of the telecommunication industry. In 1989, Ericsson Japan entered its first memorandum of understanding together with leading mobile operator NTT DoCoMo. Soon after, landmark network contracts with Digital Phone and Digital TUKA groups (today part of the SoftBank Group) graduated Japan as one of Ericsson’s top five markets.
