User controlled premium subscription upsell for consumers and enterprise using differentiated connectivity

User controlled premium subscription upsell use case

Service providers can enable a new sales channel directly to the end-user – using the native Smartphone OS capabilities. This enables subscribers to capture the just-in-time need for better connectivity and puts the end-user in control whether to upgrade his subscription as well as enabling real-time upgrade of the mobile connection.

Overview

Device operating system is a convenient sales channel for the service provider to use towards the users/subscribers. The sales channel is used to trigger purchase of a premium subscription that fulfills requirements of the applications the subscriber is currently using.

Challenge

The end user does not know what application requirements are needed from the operator's network and what are the connectivity service requirements to make the application work properly.

Solution

Service provider offers direct sales channel to the end-user using the smartphone OS. The end-users can choose to upgrade their subscription, enabling real-time connection premium subscription.

Ericsson offers user equipment (UE) interaction capabilities with Secure Entitlement Server (SES) and providing end-user subscription upsell journey.

How it works

  1. End user starts an application that demands more from the network.
  2. If a premium connection is available, the end user can purchase the premium connectivity package of their choice.
  3. Upon purchase, the service provider updates the subscription in Business Support Systems (BSS), and enables the premium connectivity for the end user.
  4. Once the OS establishes the new premium connection, the user experience is immediately enhanced.
