Location based APIs for retail and hospitality industry

Location based shopping experience use case

Location data is the most wanted exposure data according to application development community. Service providers have a unique capability to enable location updates for anyone, anywhere at any time, using the network exposure capability created by the aggregators eco system.

Overview

Service providers notify application service providers in the food and restaurants business segment about subscribers who cross boundaries of the restaurant and café reach. In turn, the information allows the restaurant and café businesses to send promotions and stimulate the users to visit them. The subscribers’ location information collected at point in time of the purchase is used as the verification of the purchase.

Challenge

Lack of location-based consumer profiling leads to untargeted advertisements by shops, events, and business owners.

Solution

ENL is a comprehensive location platform enabling seamless precise indoor and outdoor positioning focusing on network-centric exposure and device-agnostic technology.

With support from CAMARA APIs, Ericsson Network Location (ENL) provides easy-to-use location capability and enables consumer targeting by shop, event and business owner based on location and consumer profiling.

How it works

  1. The end user is in town to do some shopping.
  2. They receive a promotional SMS from a café.
  3. Using the promotion, they order a coffee.
  4. They enter the café and purchase the coffee.
  5. They leave the café with their coffee and continue shopping.

Business applications

The main target segment for this use case is the enterprise segment, specifically shops, malls, entertainment, food, restaurants and cafes.

Business models

Service providers can monetize based on three different models:

  1. Wholesale (towards the aggregator)
  2. Subscription (towards subscribers)
  3. Pay-per-use (towards the enterprise)
