Cloud Native is happening

Speed, scale, efficiency and capacity

Cloud Native for telecom applications is happening now. In the next few years all telecom applications will be cloud natively designed so as to increase efficiency and utilization of the cloud infrastructure.

Take full advantage of the cloud to:

  • Improve granularity and increase speed of software upgrades and releases
  • Automate through embedded features in the NFVI layer (cloud infrastructure for NFV)
  • Adapt software architecture to make much better use of cloud data center resources

When it comes to 5G, the new 3GPP standardized 5G Core functions will be cloud native and container based. This will start during 2019.

At Ericsson, we have created a set of principles especially made for telecom applications based on microservices, containers and state optimized design.

We will also evolve the NFVI for containers and add orchestration capabilities.

Launching Ericsson’s Cloud Native Infrastructure

The new Ericsson Cloud Native Infrastructure solution is optimized for cloud native applications – a foundational part of 5G. By deploying applications directly in bare metal containers, without the need for a virtualization layer, operators can have TCO savings up to 30%. This solution is scalable across central and edge locations supporting a vast number of 5G services and use cases. With automated lifecycle management and easy introduction of CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment), solution implementation and operations become more efficient. View this video about Ericsson Cloud Native Infrastructure.

“Optimizing cloud infrastructure for cloud native applications will be foundational in 5G. A bare-metal container infrastructure makes network deployments and operations simpler and automation easier as well as enhancing cloud native function (CNF) performance. The announcement of a bare metal solution is an important contribution to further progress telecom operators’ implementations of cloud native applications.”
