During 2025, mobile network data traffic growth was stable

Mobile network traffic Q4 2025

Mobile network data traffic grew above expectations Q4 2024 – Q4 2025

Note: The figures have been updated with data from Q4 2025

Key findings

Year-on-year mobile network data traffic growth increased in Q4 2025 to 22 percent

Total monthly global mobile network data traffic reached 200 EB in Q4 2025.

At the end of 2025, video traffic accounted for 76 percent of all mobile data traffic

The increased year-on-year growth rate in Q4 2025 of mobile network data traffic was mainly driven by the US and India.

The quarter-on-quarter mobile network data traffic growth between Q3 2025 and Q4 2025 was around 6 percent and the total monthly global mobile network data traffic reached 200 EB.

Growth in mobile network data traffic is being driven both by Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and Mobile Broadband (MBB). The MBB traffic is driven by rising smartphone subscriptions and increasing average data volume per subscription, fueled primarily by increased viewing of video content. At the end of 2025, video traffic accounted for 76 percent of all mobile data traffic.

Figure 10 shows the total global monthly network data traffic from Q4 2018 to Q4 2025, along with year-on-year percentage growth for mobile network data traffic.

Figure 10: Global mobile network data traffic and year-on-year growth

Global mobile network data traffic and year-on-year growth
Bar graph depicting quarterly growth in the monthly global mobile network traffic, which rises steadily from just over 20 EB in Q3 2018 to 188 EB in Q3 2025. Layered onto this is a line graph depicting the year-on-year growth percentage. Although the total number in EB is rising, the line graph shows that the rate of year-on-year growth is declining slowly up to Q1 2025 after a sharp peak at the end of 2018, but has risen slightly during Q2 and Q3 2025.

Note: Mobile network data traffic also includes traffic generated by Fixed Wireless Access services.
