World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is a UNESCO initiative designed to deepen understanding of cultural diversity and the importance of intercultural dialogue, diversity and inclusion. As part of the celebrations, Ericsson’s regional teams and business units around the world will hold their own related events throughout the week of May 18-22.

Maria Angelica Perez, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Group Function Human Resources, says: “Our celebrations will be a tribute to our people from 168 nationalities who work across the Ericsson group.

“Ours is a truly global company, not just in terms of our operations, but also in the makeup of our people. The events we’re staging will put the spotlight on the strength that cultural diversity and inclusion bring to our company.”

The celebrations also reflect our commitment to raising awareness of, and creating an appreciation for, cultural differences in the workplace, and to inspiring an inclusive workplace.

In addition to activities within separate regions and business units, Ericsson will also hold global virtual seminars for employees on the topics of Cultural Differences: Global Cross-Culture Workshop, Cultural Awareness: Unique Cultures Around the World, and Diversity and Inclusion at Ericsson.

All employees are encouraged to take part in the virtual seminars, to share pictures of how they celebrate diversity and inclusion in each region and business unit, and to provide brief comments on what makes them proud about their culture. Ericsson will post a selection of pictures and comments on the Ericsson Careers Instagram and Twitter channels.

“It’s hard to talk about cultures without talking about food,” Perez says. “So, as a fun way to capture the variety of Ericsson’s people, we are asking everyone to submit a recipe from their country or culture for our Ericsson Diversity and Inclusion Cookbook. We will compile recipes from around the globe and share them with all employees.”

Finally, all Ericsson staff are encouraged to take up the challenge of the Diversity and Inclusion Quiz. Those with the best scores will be eligible to win a $100 American Express gift card and be recognized on an internal Diversity and Inclusion page and through various social media channels.
