Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) is bringing together top global players from across the cellular IoT ecosystem and participants from a variety of industries at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 to drive cellular Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) technology advances and commercialization for massive IoT applications. Ericsson is working with industry and ecosystem partners to build on the existing cellular network footprint to securely and efficiently address the full diversity of IoT use cases, ranging from smart cities to wearables and environmental monitoring of water quality or air pollution.
Ericsson will host more than 30 of the world’s leading mobile operators, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), chipset, module and infrastructure companies to share experiences and ideas to accelerate commercial availability of cellular LPWA technologies at the GSMA’s Mobile IoT Initiative plenary meeting on Wednesday, February 24 in Hall 2, Stand 2N60.
Throughout the exhibition, Ericsson will demonstrate key cellular IoT technologies and use cases together with leading customers and ecosystem collaborators at different locations including Ericsson’s stand, the GSMA Innovation City and in partners’ booths.
- Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), LTE-M (Cat-M) and Extended Coverage EGPRS (EC-EGPRS) live demos in collaboration with Intel, AT&T (backing for both NB-IoT and Cat-M demos), CMCC (for Connected Sheep/Livestock tracking use case demo utilizing NB-IoT technology) and Orange (Smart Agriculture use case demo utilizing EC-EGPRS technology) in Ericsson’s hall and the GSMA Innovation City
- Cellular IoT on Smart Grid Node, a use case demo in collaboration with Sequans at Ericsson stand
- Connected Water, a use case demo in partnership with AT&T, Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and Altair at Ericsson stand
- Ecosystem display with IoT modules and devices with Gemalto, Quectel (the Chinese based M2M module provider), Sierra Wireless, Mahindra GenZe (the US based provider of electric connected scooters and e-bikes) etc, at Ericsson stand
- Power Saving Mode and eDRX (Extended Discontinuous Reception) demo for extending battery life in low-power IoT devices, in partnership with Qualcomm and Sierra Wireless at their respective demo booths
During 2016, Ericsson will conduct proof of concept demos and field trials of NB-IoT and LTE-M (Cat-M) with leading operators and chipset or module vendors such as AT&T, CMCC, Telstra, Intel, Qualcomm, Sequans and Sierra Wireless, for testing and verification of different use cases. These include connected eBike, fire detection, livestock tracking, smart grid monitoring as well as vehicle and fleet tracking.
Proof of concept of NB-IoT and LTE-M (Cat-M) demos are planned for Q2 2016 and field trials will follow the proof of concept activities later during 2016.
