Slovak Telekom demonstrates LTE Advanced solution with data speeds up to 900Mbps. Demonstration is the result of a long-term cooperation between Slovak Telekom, Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies. LTE Advanced brings higher data speeds and capacity to Slovak Telekom subscribers.

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Slovak Telekom have successfully demonstrated an over-the-air LTE Advanced solution with data speeds up to 900Mbps.

The demonstration represents the continuation of a long-term cooperation between Ericsson, Slovak Telekom and Qualcomm Technologies, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. This cooperation aims to bring the latest communication technologies to the Slovak region and to support Slovak Telekom in providing an advanced user experience to its subscribers.

The Ericsson Radio System equipment and software installed in Slovak Telekom’s commercial network demonstrated Gigabit-class LTE with peak data speeds up to 900Mbps. Ericsson RAN equipment installed and commercially used in Slovak Telekom’s network, and a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X16 LTE modem, were used in the demonstration. The solution supports a maximum data throughput of 900Mbps by utilizing 50MHz three-carrier aggregation with 256 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), and by applying 4x4 multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) across 40MHz of spectrum.

Branimir Marič, CTIO, Slovak Telekom, says: “Slovak Telekom keeps the momentum of using the wide range of auctioned spectrum with an LTE Advanced demonstration in a commercial network in Slovakia. Once again, we have pushed the boundaries of our network to the next level, and after trialing 300Mbps and 375Mbps speeds in previous years, we have now undertaken a jump to higher speeds that can reach up to 900Mbps. This is an immense step forward that demonstrates Slovak Telekom’s ability to increase our technology lead in the Slovak region."

Slovak Telekom started to build nationwide LTE network coverage in 2013. In order to improve customer experience, Slovak Telekom and Ericsson are cooperating on network speeds and quality enhancements in parallel while expanding LTE network coverage.

Mats Otterstedt, Head of Ericsson Central Europe, says: “Ericsson, in cooperation with Slovak Telekom, brings the newest LTE technologies to the Slovak region, helping to provide the best user experience for Slovak Telecom customers. Following previous successful tests in the commercial network, today’s event is an important next step in the long-term cooperation between Slovak Telekom and Ericsson. We strongly believe that we can contribute and support Slovak Telekom in further developing the Slovak telecom industry."

Ericsson and Slovak Telekom have been partners for almost two decades. Ericsson is Slovak Telekom’s sole supplier for the 2G/3G/LTE Radio Access Network and Circuit Switched Core. Furthermore, Ericsson delivers IMS and managed services for the fixed network.
