According to the report, the Ericsson SAPC solution leads the market in offering extensive network-wide policy control reach, enhanced to support carrier grade VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling.
Ron Westfall, Research Director, Service Provider Infrastructure at GlobalData says: “Ericsson SAPC solution stands out in delivering user experience benefits to operators in areas like user interface clarity, training-ease, real-time customer interactions, and management ease.”
The Ericsson SAPC product is conceived based on 3GPP Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF). It provides the ability to authorize and offer personalized services increasing service usage and making stronger customer relationship as a result of a better usability. SAPC is key to secure the network behavior when users access data services, such as, authorizing the services, assigning the QoS of the data-session and the charging that shall be applied; and performs a business critical role for monetization and differentiation of operator’s mobile and converged broadband commercial packages.
The Ericsson SAPC product is an important component of Ericsson’s solutions today for broadband networks as Evolved Packet Core (EPC), Ericsson Mobile Telephony Evolution with VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling, and BSS to name some.
Policy control will continue to play an important role for 5G and IoT. In 5G policy control will be the brain of the network, leveraging from the traditional control of QoS to the control of radio technologies to use, dynamic slice selection and subscriber steering. When it comes to IoT, policy control is a key component to monetize the operators’ IoT offerings by means of the definition of a variety of offers that comprise the whole spectrum of IoT usages. In critical IoT, QoS plays an important role and policy will set the conditions to reach the ultra-low latency needed in this cases whenever it’s needed.
Ericsson has more than 200 SAPC customers and more than 600 nodes deployed worldwide. More than 50 of the contracts are SAPC NFV contracts.
