In an article by AFP on January 16, it was wrongfully stated that Ericsson is intending to divest its Business Area Digital Services. Ericsson made a statement to AFP following the article:
“Ericsson has no intention to divest Business Area Digital Services, reported as Segment Digital Services. This was clearly stated when Ericsson announced its focused business strategy in March 2017. Digital Services is a core business for Ericsson, and as such a key investment area. We underline that the impairment announced yesterday in no way is an indicator of a changed level of commitment to the Digital Services area.”
An updated version of the AFP article is now available and the corrected paragraph now reads as follows:
“The two business areas mainly responsible for the writedowns are Ericsson's digital services unit and media business.
Press reports have speculated that Ericsson is seeking to divest its media business, which provides services for television channels, telecom operators and content providers.
Ericsson has not confirmed those reports, saying only that it is exploring strategic opportunities for the media business since it is no longer considered part of the group's core businesses of networks, digital services and Internet of Things.”
