This week, we're joined by Sven Hellsten, the business development director for Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) at Ericsson, working to connect 5G using satellites for truly global connectivity. We discuss how the technology is progressing rapidly, in a few years we could be seeing the mass standardisation, with a 'satellite roaming' feature on smartphones for an extra cost. Satellite connectivity could help with a variety of use cases, from sharing a picture in a remote part of the world, to helping with emergency communications and journalism in areas with limited networks.
