As Morocco prepares for significant digital milestones and mega- sports events, Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) hosted its Technology Days in Morocco from December 3rd to December 6th in Rabat and Casablanca, bringing together different telecom stakeholders to discuss the role of 5G in transforming the country’s digital landscape.

This event aligns with the Moroccan government’s plans and ambitions to launch 5G technology as well as the country’s national strategy Digital Morocco 2030.

During the Technology Days, Ericsson welcomed customers, regulators, local operators, industry partners, and media, and  showcased live demonstrations, including immersive sports fan engagement, network performance enhancement through Artifical Intelligence (AI), and 5G monetization through network slicing and Network Exposure.

The Technology Days served as a key platform for exploring how 5G can benefit various sectors of the Moroccan society. For instance, 5G is set to facilitate significant improvements in sports fan engagement by enabling real-time interactions and enhancing the streaming capabilities of live events. This advancement will address the growing demand for immersive experiences among fans. During the event, discussions also focused on how communication service providers (CSPs) can benefit from Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Software tools to achieve optimal network performance through automation. These advancements will not only improve the quality of services but also contribute to the overall economic development of the country.

Majda Lahlou Kassi, Vice President and Head of Ericsson West Africa & Morocco, says, “5G has the potential to transform various sectors in Morocco, including sports, manufacturing, ports operations, and mining, by enabling real-time data exchange and creating efficiencies. Hosting Ericsson’s Technology Days in Morocco provided an important opportunity for our partners and stakeholders to meet with Ericsson's experts, engage in discussions, and experience demonstrations that will play a crucial role in driving the launch of 5G in Morocco, in line with our #AfricaInMotion vision.”

The November 2024 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report was also presented during the event. It highlights that mobile subscriptions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are expected to grow to 830 million by 2030, with 5G anticipated to account for 60 percent of total subscriptions at 500 million subscriptions. This data reflects the momentum within the region as it moves toward enhanced connectivity. Meanwhile, 2G and 3G subscriptions are expected to decline, and CSPs will focus on reallocating spectrum for 4G and 5G.

Ericsson continues to collaborate with local partners to facilitate the rollout of 5G technology, advancing Morocco’s digital landscape and contributing to its economic development.
