This network is the first live implementation, which allows an operator to provide advanced telephony services to multiple continents from a central location, controlling multi-service gateways in a number of different countries. This solution enables Telia IC to better serve its international wholesale business across Europe and between Europe and the US.

The current industry climate demands an optimized network that delivers high quality services in a cost-effective way. Ericsson's ENGINE softswitch solution is a multi-service platform that addresses this need.

"Using the ENGINE platform enables us to have a better management of our international telephony costs. At the same time, this platform provides us with the ability to offer higher quality and more integrated services to our customers" says Jean-Claude Geha, Vice President and head of Telia IC's Networks Division.

"We are extremely pleased with the successful rollout of our ENGINE soft-switch solution in Telia IC's cross-continental network. Our unique combination of telecom and IP competence has enabled us to help operators such as Telia to optimize their networks, and also to secure Ericsson's position as world market leader in softswitching." said Bert Norberg, Vice President and head of business unit Systems at Ericsson.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communication through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
