Based on the agreement, the current system, which is also supplied by Ericsson, will be upgraded to an Ericsson IN platform for prepaid system. The new system is scheduled to be fully operational next year.

"Ericsson's Advanced Prepaid Solution will provide us with the tool to further develop our prepaid offerings and attract more subscribers to GrameenPhone," explains Ola Ree, Managing Director of GrameenPhone.

"We are extremely satisfied with GrameenPhone's decision to upgrade its existing prepaid system to the latest prepaid technology," says Mats Bosrup, Managing Director of Ericsson Bangladesh. "We look forward to continue strengthening our partnership with GrameenPhone."

Ericsson's Prepaid solution provides any potential subscriber instant access to a personalized mobile phone service with a high degree of integrity and total cost control. It incorporates a rich selection of charging features in a scalable, IN-based system, suitable for large networks.

The Prepaid solution works in real time, which means that calls are charged during the actual call. Charging is done so as not to allow calls to extend their account limit. When a call is about to exhaust the available account credit, there will be an advance warning to inform the subscriber. This in turn increases the flexibility for the users to be in control of their account.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
