From the 26th to 27th September 2023, Ericsson will open its doors in Herzogenrath near Aachen for the twelfth annual Imagine Live Innovation Days. The in-house exhibition of the Eurolab research and development site offers a platform for direct exchange between Ericsson experts and customers on the latest trends and developments in the market, with live demos of innovative solutions and products. The theme of this year’s exhibition is on Ericsson’s Cloud RAN product portfolio, based on Open RAN principles and architecture, and sustainable mobile communications technology. Just in time for the event, the establishment of a new Cloud RAN department at Ericsson's research and development site Eurolab has been completed.
Cloud RAN and Open RAN are two of the most important technology trends in the mobile market, and Ericsson is a key contributor to the continued development of these technologies. In addition to product development and marketing, ongoing research into network architecture and standardization is being conducted by a global team of dedicated Ericsson researchers. With the inauguration of a new Cloud RAN Solutions Unit at the Herzogenrath site, the dedicated team in Germany will join efforts with researchers in Canada, Ireland and Sweden in the development of the product division.
"The Eurolab in Aachen is already one of Ericsson's most important development centres on the topics of 6G and Cloud RAN, and the team here has already worked successfully on all important mobile communications standards since 2G," says Daniel Leimbach, Head of Customer Unit Western Europe and Managing Director of Ericsson Germany. "The topics of 6G and Cloud RAN have been thought of together by us from the very beginning and the new Cloud RAN Solutions Unit will further drive these synergies. The fact that this important new research unit is being established here at Eurolab demonstrates its crucial role in Ericsson's development ecosystem and will further strengthen it. This is good news for Ericsson in Germany and also for Germany as a whole as a research and development location in the strategically important mobile communications sector."
