Telekom Slovenije launches Ericsson-powered 5G Standalone network

Telekom Slovenije and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) have switched on the first 5G Standalone (5G SA) mobile service in Slovenia, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation.

Working with Ericsson, Telekom Slovenije has completed an extensive modernization and expansion of its 5G network. Subscribers will now benefit from 5G Standalone connectivity delivered via a network powered end-to-end Ericsson’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) and a full-stack core network, including Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core solution and Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution. The deployment of 5G Standalone also strengthens Slovenia’s digital sovereignty by building secure, resilient and future-ready infrastructure based on trusted European technology.

This implementation also introduces Ericsson’s Cloud Core Exposure Server, providing a Network Exposure Function that will enable Telekom Slovenije’s customers, partners or selected developers to make us of a range of network capabilities in their applications thanks to standardized APIs.

As well as making a 5G SA connection possible for subscribers, the modernization made the network overall more efficient, ensures the highest level of cybersecurity, and enables enhanced performance such as faster and more reliable mobile broadband and ultra-low latency for real-time applications.

It also enables differentiated connectivity through network slicing, allowing customized service quality for businesses and critical applications, as well as underpinning enterprise-grade 5G services that support smart city solutions, industrial automation, and next-generation digital services.
